Flavors enjoyed a special tasting dinner hosted by Chef Brian Obermeyer at Villagio Italian Kitchen, a new Italian restaurant located in Decatur. Villagio incorporates elements of both a refined, elegant meal with a casual dining experience with its straight-forward and bold flavors, seasonal dishes and time-honored, traditional Italian favorites. The menu is well thought out with something for every diner including Antipasti, Pizza, Spiedini (chargrilled skewers), Contorni (sides), Primi (recommended first course) and Secondi (traditionally the second or main course). The menu also boasts an impressive list of wine, cocktails and craft beer.

The carefully selected, multi-course tasting menu prepared by Chef Obermeyer had several  impressive dishes. The Fritto Misto antipasti comprised of flash fried artichokes, mushrooms, locally grown organic kale and served with roasted garlic aioli is a great start; a perfect bite of crunchy vegetables and rich mushrooms, the aioli gives it the extra tang and spice that elevates this dish to something pretty spectacular. The Insalata de Barbaietole and Insalata Cesare are classic hits and perfectly executed, with crisp greens and bright, well-seasoned dressings. One of the  main courses, the Papardelle Agnello  (Lamb Ragu with carrots and Grana Padano), is an excellent dish: The lamb is braised to perfection; fork tender and with intensity of flavor in every bite. The Chicken Piccata is harmoniously balanced with just the right amount of lemon and capers and the chicken is impeccably prepared, retaining the flavors and moisture of the Pinot Grigio pan sauce.  The dessert tasting included the Panna Cotta, the Tiramisu and  King of Pops popsicles. The creaminess of the tiramisu is something to dream about later and will require a return visit; it is the quintessential tiramisu dessert. Overall, each dish at Villagio Italian Kitchen is prepared with attention to detail and consideration of each ingredient and its place on the plate.

The restaurant design is warm and welcoming, with spaces for a  family meal, an intimate dinner date or a  corporate holiday party on their heated outdoor patio with space for a DJ or live Atlanta band. With plans for a menu expansion, a separate vegetarian menu, and the launching of the lunch menu on December 2nd, Villagio Italian Kitchen is well on its way to becoming a dining destination.  For more information, please visit their webpage at http://villagioitaliankitchen.com/ or check out their Facebook page.
