Canoe is proud to announce Matthew Basford as executive chef. Basford has worked at Canoe since 2005 and has worked his way up the ranks from sous chef to executive sous chef and finally, chef de cuisine. 

 Born and raised in Australia, Basford worked in kitchens in Angaston and Greenock. During his apprenticeship, he placed in various competitions including Tasting Australia and Nestle Junior Chefs of Australia. In 2002, Basford moved to New Orleans to work at the Maison Dupuy Hotel. In 2005, he relocated to Atlanta and within a week found himself in the Canoe kitchen. Following in the footsteps of some of Atlanta’s most celebrated chefs, Basford looks forward to continuing the standard of innovative fine dining.  He is committed to using only the freshest seasonal ingredients in a creative manner to carry on the rich tradition of Canoe.
