Thanksgiving may be a couple months away, but it is never too early to plan and prep for the tasty holiday. White Oak Pastures is now offering pre-ordering on their free-roaming turkeys. White Oak Pastures turkeys are different from a traditional store bought bird – in fact, the turkeys can fly the day they are harvested and are raised and slaughtered right on the farm. This year, the Certified Organic farm is raising delicious Broad Breasted Bronze, Auburn and Black turkey breeds, and they are available in small, medium and large varieties.

From now until September 30, White Oak Pastures is offering a special 20 percent discount on pre-order and pre-paying customers who order turkeys for Thanksgiving. From October 1 through November 2, a 5 percent discount is offered. The birds will ship on November 17to arrive just in time for the holiday.

White Oak Pastures makes the day-of cooking that much easier by offering delicious recipes to accompany their birds. The farm’s very own head chef, Reid Harrison, created three delicious recipes including a lemon-herb buttered turkey, honey-thyme carrots and red wine-braised turnips for the all-American holiday. Chefs from Atlanta's top restaurants, paired with our area's best farms will be set up in a tasting format alongside fine wines and premium micro-brews--all under festive big-top tents in the beautiful gardens surrounding The Inn at Serenbe near Palmetto.  Other highlights include:  Live music by DriveTrain, the South's premiere Bluegrass band, a one-of-a-kind cake raffle featuring sweets from Atlanta's top pastry chefs, hayrides, children's activities and an expansive silent auction offering exclusive dining and travel packages, food and wine merchandise and original art by prominent artists.
 
Les Dames d'Escoffier International is dedicated to creating a supportive culture in the community, fostering excellence and promoting the achievement of women in hospitality professions through educational and charitable activities. Proceeds from Afternoon in the Country benefit Georgia Organics, Wholesome Wave. Global Growers Network, The Giving Kitchen, The Wylde Center, The Atlanta Community Food Bank and Atlanta Les Dames d'Escoffier International's scholarship fund for women in the culinary, beverage and hospitality arts.  Our 2013 event raised $115,000 for our beneficiaries, and Afternoon in the Country has garnered a reputation as one of Atlanta's most unforgettable food and wine tasting events.

Rodney Murillo, Culinary Director of Davio’s Restaurants & Avila, will be competing on the Food Network's Rewrapped on Monday September 8th at 8:00 p.m!  Growing up on a farm in Costa Rica, Chef Murillo gained an appreciation for every aspect of food preparation. Murillo remembers that all meals prepared by his family used only the freshest ingredients, a tradition he strives to maintain at the restaurants to this day. Murillo’s talent and dedication allowed him to quickly rise through the ranks to Chef of Davio’s Restaurant. In 2009, Murillo was invited to cook at the James Beard house, which he considers a huge honor. He takes great pride in being a self-taught chef and working with many of the same people who have nurtured him through his years at Davio’s.
