The highly-anticipated new location of Chequers Seafood + Steak is now open in East Cobb. Located on the corner of Upper Roswell Road at 1401 Johnson Ferry Rd.,  the new incarnation of the Atlanta eatery boasts 130 seats including an outdoor, covered patio and a semi-private dining room.

Chequers Seafood + Steak is open for dinner seven nights a week, along with Sunday brunch. Executive Chef James Dennerline features restaurant favorites from the original Chequers location along with new menu items showcasing fresh ocean fare and prime steaks for which the restaurant is known. In contrast with typical upscale seafood and steakhouses, entrees at Chequers always include side dishes, creating surprising value for the menu and experience the restaurant offers.

Highlights from the new menu include:

  • Maple Plank Roasted Salmon with bourbon glaze, whipped yukon gold potatoes, green beans and pecans
  • Seared Georges Bank Scallops with lemon asparagus risotto, fennel and balsamic reduction
  • Char Crusted Ahi Tuna with parmesan-herb roasted yukon gold potatoes, grilled asparagus and foyot sauce
  • 14 oz. Bone-in Duroc Pork Chop with choice of two seasonal sides  
In addition to its diverse menu, Chequers Seafood + Steak will launch Happy Hour on the patio and bar, featuring $7 appetizers, $1 oysters and $3.5 lobster claws from 4-7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Sunday Brunch is served buffet style with items including made-to-order omelets, Belgian waffles and an assorted cold, seafood display.

Guy Wong, local chef and owner of Miso Izakaya, is launching Le Fat, a Vietnamese restaurant this summer. The restaurant will showcase Vietnamese com (rice), bun (vermicelli), clay pots and stir-fry.
 
“I’m looking forward to sharing flavors of Vietnam with the Westside community,” Wong said. "I am honored to be a part of West Midtown's new dining scene and I believe Le Fat will be a welcomed dining spot in the thriving neighborhood."
 
The new concept will be housed at 935 Marietta Street in West Midtown with designs by Smith Hanes, interior architects known for establishments such as The Optimist, Watershed on Peachtree and JCT. Kitchen & Bar. Unlike traditional Asian restaurant designs, Le Fat’s interior pulls from Vietnam’s French-colonial influences. The 3,300-square-foot restaurant is decorated with muted colors, 1950s-inspired hand-painted wallpaper and custom lighting.

When you walk into Emidio’s Restaurant, you immediately get a sense of warmth and old world hospitality. These attributes are closely mirrored by owners  husband and wife, Emidio (friends call him Joe) and Maria Sapeta. With an extraordinary history of lifelong culinary achievement, Chef Sapeta is no stranger to Portuguese food. Growing up on the island of Madeira, he worked his way through many kitchens both abroad and  locally, until moving to Atlanta to be close to their son:  a student at Georgia State University with aspirations to attend Georgia Tech.  Both Joe and Maria exude enthusiasm and delight when they discuss the history and culture of each dish and are founts of wisdom when pairing their dishes with traditional Portuguese wines. 

Each dish is carefully crafted using customary cooking techniques. Maria proudly described the food as “Very light, because we don’t use any enhancers or fillers, nor food colors; it’s all real food. Everything is made to order so it is very fresh and we can make dishes for allergies and many of our options are gluten free.” It is easy to tell that Emidio’s is committed to this philosophy as you take a bite of the Shrimp and Chouriço in Garlic Sauce; delicately seasoned with bold flavors that greet your palate with sensational tastes. The sausage is smoked for 15 days and is a hearty accompaniment to the light paprika, white wine and garlic sauce.  Maria explained that it is typically served with Vinho Verde,  translated as “green wine,” referring not to the color but to the fact that it should be drunk within a year of bottling. The wine typically has a mild sparkling characteristic and Maria and Joe make Mimosas with it during the summer. Good thing summer is coming up soon!

Shrimp and Chouriço in Garlic Sauce
Our next course was the Arroz de Marisco:  In this dish, the flavors are balanced between the acid of the tomatoes and the ocean brine from the shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels each suiting the other. All of the seafood is tender and light. The portion size is generous, so you can share with a group. It's a perfect warm weather dish.

The last course of Lamb: Joe’s Style was the highlight of the evening, and Maria explained that one part of Chef’s secret sauce is  cooking it for over 9 hours, developing flavors and depth throughout the process. The lamb is very tender and the mashed potatoes that accompany it are velvety and smooth. It is also one of the most popular items on the menu so make sure you get to Emidio’s early!

In addition to the lunch and dinner menu, Emidio’s offers specials during the week, and a special Sunday Dinner for only $14.50 per person from noon to 5:00 p.m. This includes a choice of soup or salad, an entrée and coffee. They will also have a special menu for Mother’s Day and The Pride of Portugal Wine Tasting Dinner coming up in June. Lastly, if you have a sweet tooth, make sure you visit on the weekends for Maria’s special dessert: Pasteis De Nata, an egg tart pastry which was created before the 18th century in Lisbon.
