Michael's Journey

Just three weeks after Dunwoody wine-and-dine emporium Vino Venue’s official opening in November 2012, founder Michael Bryan was diagnosed with Stage 3 pleomorphic sarcoma – a rare form of cancer. In the midst of what comes with launching a new concept and running a business, Michael and his wife, Lelia, were challenged with making adjustments to life filled with doctor appointments, chemotherapy, radiation, a challenging surgery, and a year later, thinking all was behind them, a rediagnosis required the removal of Michael’s left leg and pelvis.
Graciously utilizing the proceeds from this special event, Michael and his wife will apply these funds to their substantial medical bills, out-of-pocket expenses related to his newly-fitted and life-changing prosthetic leg, weekly therapy sessions which have already exceeded what his health insurance considers allowable, additional medical equipment, and various living improvements that will remove certain hazards of daily life that could be detrimental to his mobility.
“I’m so appreciative of the generosity of friends and acquaintances who have organized this event to raise funds for my medical expenses,” Michael says. “My family and I have such deep gratitude for this ‘Friends of Michael’ event and the possibilities it will bring to our future.”
